Community Features and Amenities
Yishi is ripe with both potential and existing infrastructure. Yishi has a unique combination of features extremely desirable from an American perspective, plus a delightful lack of incurable flaws that plague other communities in Israel. Here’s some of what’s offered:
A gated religious community where streets are closed on Shabbat.
A neighborhood layout very similar to a planned American community. Houses are well spaced, the community is set up in a square, and houses are arranged with a sense of order viewed as ‘normal’ to non-Israelis.
Yishi is a gated community with guardhouse. The gate is generally left open at the present time, but the one-entrance layout and already existing guardhouse would make conversion to an American-style gated community an obvious and easy upgrade.
Community facilities are centrally located. These include;
5 shuls – including one ‘nusach Carlebach’
A three-seder kollel run by charadim from Bet Shemesh
A large playground not bordering anyone’s property
A full-sized basketball court, Bnei Akiva clubhouse
A “Klallit” health services center, which could conceivably be converted to Meuhedet in the future given community interrest
A reservable community events hall
A moshav library and secretary’s office
A pleasant moshav residents-only women’s mikveh with no crowds and no waiting
A currently closed market, easily brought to life as a moshav gourmet, deli, natural foods store, grocery, etc.
Plenty of room for building and expansion. Suggestions anyone?
No thru-traffic.
Yishi is relatively flat. Walking around the neighborhood is extremely pleasant.
Yishi is surrounded by an eruv, permitting carrying throughout Yishi and Bet Shemesh
Views and privacy in every direction. With national forests, archeological no-development zones and farmland from Kibutz Tzora surrounding Yishi on three of four sides, Yishi is beautiful in every direction. Although bordered on the east by Bet Shemesh, all buildings are far distant enough to seem scenic rather than encroaching. The other three directions are undeveloped and beautiful.
Quiet. Free from unwanted influences, Yishi is for the most part a quiet, pleasant environment.
Easy access to Bet Shemesh and Ramat Bet Shemesh’s schools, facilities, health care, and recreation. Bet Shemesh is right across the street from Yishi, offering easy access by foot. Have friends from Bet Shemesh over for a Shabbos meal!
Freedom from the numerous incurable flaws that mar nearly every other Anglo community in Israel. For those who have not conducted thorough community searches, this point can not be stressed enough. Improbable as it may seem, from Mt. Hermon to Eilat, there is not one other Anglo community that has the list of features Yishi offers and does not have some fatal flaw ruining the image. Perhaps the community is extremely isolated and inaccessible. Or there are no other English speakers. Or the lots are tiny. Or the entrance to the community is a 10 minute drive up a steep hill. Or there are Arabs all over the place. Or the community is unattractive. The list goes on. Yishi is amazing in that… …there’s nothing wrong with it…
